1200 calories...

25 days ago I looked up how many calories I should be consuming in order to lose weight. You can find a calculator online that will tell you based on your age/height/weight. That's the day I put myself on a 1200 calorie meal plan. I don't call it a diet because I don't feel like I'm starving or having to live on salad. I'm literally counting EVERY calorie that goes into my body. When I started reading the side of the box of things I used to eat - OH MY WORD. I was consuming the amount of calories for a ginormous man. I've had people ask what I'm doing and what I'm eating so I thought I would write a post about it. I've found the My Fitness Pal app on my iphone to be incredibly helpful! I keep up with all of my exercise and calories on this app. You can search for any food and lots of restaurants to find out how many calories you're consuming.

Breakfast options:

Coffee

All Natural Granola - I put this on top of my yogurt in the mornings. My favorite with the least calories is Bear Naked Granola.

Stonyfield Vanilla Yogurt

1/2 Medium Banana

Instant Oatmeal (Maple & Brown Sugar). I eat the low sugar option and add 1 tsp of Brummel & Brown Yogurt Spread. I also make it with 1/2 cup of skim organic milk. Milk is high calorie so I try to be careful how much I drink.

Scrambled or fried egg w/piece of whole wheat toast or multi-grain english muffin.

Every Sunday I go through Starbucks and get a grande non-fat vanilla latte. My latte choice is 200 calories. This is the only day of the week that I don't have time for breakfast, so I drink my calories.

Lunch options:

Multigrain Tortilla w/turkey, mixed greens, tomato, laughing cow cheese, tiny bit of ranch dressing to add more flavor.

Strawberry Spinach Salad w/strawberries & fat free feta. I dip my fork in dressing so I don't really consume much but get a little of the flavor. :)

Tomato Basil Soup - I buy this pre-made at Fresh Market. You can have a cup of this for only 100 calories!

Grilled Chicken Breast on a salad or with veggies, baked potato.

Medium Baked Potato w/sour cream only.

Dinner Options:

Grilled Chicken Breast with salad or baked potato.

Grilled Fish with salad, veggies or baked potato.

Pulled pork without the bun.

I even have fried catfish. I just make sure I save a few of my calories during the day. Some restaurants have fried catfish that's only 100 calories per piece. I don't eat the hush puppies or fries and have salad and a baked potato.

Salad with lots veggies.

I've had ribs...chicken strips...tacos on corn tortillas. You can have anything you want - you just have to watch the quantity you're consuming and what's on it.

Snack options:

I love any of the 100 calorie snack packs. So many options!

Laughing Cow Cheese.

Pretzel Thins.

Skinny Cow desserts.

Marshmallows.

I measure everything I eat. If it says 1/2 cup - I get out my measuring cup! If I'm out to eat - I look up the restaurant and find out how many calories are in what I'm about to order or do it ahead of time. Seems like a pain but it's really not. I feel healthier and have more energy! I have always drank water w/lemon and unsweetened tea, so I don't really have to worry about drinking my calories. If you're going to drink sweet tea - it's best to make it at home. A large sweet tea at Mcalisters or Chick-fil-a is at least 220 calories! Some of you don't have to worry about the amount of calories you consume and I'll try not to hate you for that. ;) I on the other hand...well, in order to get the rest of this weight off, I do have to pay attention to what I'm eating. I walk with Amelia (when it's not raining) and that has helped too. I usually walk 20 minutes every day. I hope to build up to a run which burns even more calories but for now - walking it is! I also try not to eat past 7:00pm. If I get a craving for something sweet before bed - I eat a couple of marshmallows and go to bed! :)

This is day 25 on the 1200 calorie meal plan and I've lost 9.4 pounds!! I would love to lose 20 more pounds. I'm going to just wait and see how I feel as more comes off. I'm not really hung up on the number on the scale...I just want to feel good in my clothes again. I've already lost two sizes in some of my clothes which is exciting.

So for those that asked - this is what I'm doing!

What we're up to...

Amelia and I headed over to my sister's house yesterday. I wanted to help with things at the house and also wanted to run some errands for her. She's still building her strength and needs to rest. I'm just happy to be able to serve my sister and help her in any way. She has taken care of me after so many surgeries. Amelia watched TV with her Aunt Joy for quite some time...so sweet.

We headed to Walmart and picked up a few things that my sis needed. Pryce came along to help. Amelia loves her Pryce. She only says his name 1,000 times while he's around. :)

I feel like Amelia and I had the best day today! She is so much fun right now...we can sit and play together and then when I need to do housework - she'll sit in the living room or her bedroom and "read" her books or play with her toys. We went for a walk after lunch today. She just loves to be outside.

We have a dresser in the living room where we keep CDs. She loves to pull them out and put them back in. Today I noticed she was sitting with a CD between her legs, looking down at the CD, and had her hands on her cheeks with her mouth wide open. I didn't think much about it until she continued to do it.

I go over to look at the CD and this is what she's looking at! I could not stop laughing. She cracks me up.

I have put myself on 1200 calories a day because I want to lose the rest of this IVF weight. I'm so over it. It needs to go away. So I'm serious about this...I'm counting calories and it's working! I've lost almost 5 lbs since Saturday. I was so excited to find whole grain tortillas that only have 60 calories each. I made chicken tacos tonight and they were delicious. So here's to getting this weight off me!!

And this is random but does your child like to have their teeth brushed? It has become the biggest issue with my girl. I think I would pay someone to brush her teeth twice a day if I could. Tonight went ok but only because I acted a fool and danced around singing some made-up song about brushing her teeth. I may just count brushing her teeth twice a day as my exercise. For real.

I ordered this too-cute-for-words Baby Lulu outfit for Amelia...and it's too short for my tall girl. BUMMER. It's so stinkin' cute - I was upset that she can't wear it. So....if any of you are in need of an 18 month outfit - email me! I'm selling the set for $25 which will include shipping. It has a cute ruffle at the bottom of the pants that's in the polka dot material.

Okay, I'm going to say goodnight. I'm.so.tired.

Is this how you blog??

Do you guys remember me?? Is this how you blog??

I took an unexpected blogging break. My sweet sister, Joy was put in the hospital on April 4th. She was there for several days. Thankfully they found the cause of the constant pain and nausea that she has been dealing with since last fall. She'll have surgery in the near future. Keep her in your prayers, please?

Thought I would share a few pics of what we've been up to over the past couple of days.

Amelia loves carrying her purse and I think it's so cute. She takes it to doctor's visits or anywhere that she might need important things like her cell phone, compact mirror, and her "credit cards."

We went to a couples wedding shower for Alex's cousin. We love Clay and his bride-to-be, Mary Lee. We had to drive past Pinnacle Mountain to get there...isn't it beautiful!? I've climbed it once in my life. That will be the last. I'm not a real outdoorsy type person.

This was from this morning on the way to church. Amelia was a happy girl. We love Sundays!

Amelia has taken a liking to her new puzzles over the past week. I love watching her take the pieces out and try to get them back in. If she can't get them back in the spot, she turns around and says, "help - pease? :)

Alex worked on taxes (BOO!) on Saturday. I decided that I needed to be productive as well, so I tackled Amelia's closet. I needed to pull out a lot of clothes that no longer fit. This is what I pulled out! Heavens.

And this was the finished product! So much better than before...only spring/summer clothing. Oh, and a few things to layer just in case the weather turns crazy like it has a few times already!

This is from tonight. We were at Cheeburger and Amelia was sitting in Alex's lap until her food came. They were playing trivia. I think Alex won.

My S-I-L posted this picture on FB and I just had to share it. This is my niece Alexandria Grace. She loves to cheer and dance. I love watching her in ballet-style dancing. I'm constantly impressed and so proud of her! Love you, Gracie!!

I could share more but I'm tired...so that's all for tonight. Hopefully I'll be back in a blogging groove this week. I also hope to catch up on my blog reading...I've been absent for over a week. I hope you're all doing well!

Licking the beater...

I feel like I haven't blogged in forever! Every time I would sit down at the computer to write - I would decide I would rather go to sleep. I usually blog at night after everyone is in bed if I'm going to write or edit pictures.

Amelia is feeling much better. I can't remember if I wrote it on the blog or not but she got strep AGAIN. This is her third time with strep. When the doctor told me the test was positive - I started crying in her office. For some reason when she's sick...I feel like it's my fault. I try so hard to keep her well. The last time she had this I went and bought a cart cover so she doesn't touch anything when we're in stores. I switched out her toothbrush/medicine syringe, etc. This time I went and bought 4 toothbrushes and have switched it out every few days! I've been putting anti-bacterial on her hands like crazy. I don't know what else to do. The doc said it could be her tonsils and that if she continues to get it - they will have to come out. I hate the thought of this, but I also don't want her to be 29 like I was and have to have them out - it's a very hard surgery as an adult. Anyway, my girl is back to sleeping until almost 10am every morning. That's how I know she's feeling better. We Averitt girls love our sleep!

I made chocolate chip cookies this week and let Amelia lick the beater for the very first time. She sat there spinning it around, licking every bit of it clean! A bit messy but a mess worth cleaning up in the end. :)

My friend Kristin shared a post on baking with your little ones and it showed me that Amelia can actually do more than just lick the beater at this age. The next time I bake I'm going to let her help me pour in some of the ingredients. I know she will love that!

I don't know if you're familiar with Zulily but it has become one of my favorite sites. I try not to look at it every day because it could easily cause me to go broke! ;) They have the cutest stuff and all at a discounted price. Every day the inventory is different. Here's my link if you want to check it out! For those that have signed up and ordered for the first time under me - thank you!

We have a very busy weekend ahead. Our Saturday is packed full...not sure how I'm going to do it all. It's cold right now but it's supposed to be 80 by tomorrow. Yay for warmer weather!!

Hope you have a happy Thursday!

I love weekends...

We went to the doctor yesterday. We waited for a while to see the doc. Amelia kept resting her head on me. I love when she does this.

She went ahead and brought her own stethoscope to check her vitals as we waited. They think Amelia has a nut allergy. They called in an Epipen and referred us to a pediatric allergist to confirm. I'm still praying it's not!!

After our doctor's appointment we ran to Alex's work for a few minutes. He wanted to take her in and show her off to some of his co-workers. :) We then headed to the mall to have some lunch. We like to get a chicken philly sandwich and fries. We share the chicken out of the sandwich, but I think Amelia would eat all of it herself if I let her. We always get our drinks from CFA...unsweetened tea for me - milk for her. She looks so big to me in this picture!

Friday evening is usually when we eat out, but I was so tired and my back was killing me so we stayed home. Joy had made us PW's chicken pot pie, so I put that in the oven. It was delicious!! We watched an Elvis movie that was on TCM. This was my nephew Pryce's FAVORITE movie when he was little. He loved Elvis. When we would ask who his favorite actor was he would say, "Avis" & "Scooby Doo." HAHA! So cute. Amelia enjoyed the movie too...she likes any movie with singing.

Alex took us to Mimi's for breakfast this morning. We all chose the pancake breakfast. Our waiter was obviously new and bless his heart...I was trying to be patient and not get irritated with him. I'm fairly certain they trained him for about 30 minutes and then just let him start waiting tables. He was struggling. The more I thought about it - the less irritated I became and actually felt sorry for him. I can only imagine how overwhelmed he felt. Once I changed my stinky attitude about the waiter - it was a good time! :)

Amelia had the Mimi Mouse Pancakes. I'm certain hers tasted better if for no other reason than because they were shaped like Mickey Mouse!

Now we're home. Amelia is sleeping, Alex is cleaning the garage, and I'm blogging. I need to load the dishwasher, wash some towels, and fold the laundry on the bed. So I had better stop blogging and get to it.

I love weekends.

Happy Friday!

It's 10:07AM and Amelia is still asleep. I'm going to have to wake her up soon because we have a doctor's appointment this morning. Having blood drawn to check on the allergy issue.

I'm enjoying a cup of french toast coffee (it's so delicious) and trying to wake up. I had my first appointment with the new chiropractor yesterday. I left feeling immediate relief in my back and hip. It didn't take long for the hip pain to come back though. I took the hottest bath known to man last night and then went straight to bed. I have to go 3 days a week and hopefully he'll have my pelvis back to a normal position soon. It's extremely slanted. My right pant leg is so much shorter than my left right now. (LOL)

I also had a babysitter for Amelia two days this week. It was glorious. The first day I went and had lunch all by myself. I'm one of those people that actually enjoys eating alone, seeing a movie alone, etc. Not all of the time of course but every so often it's very nice. I also went to Target, the market, the bank...and then it was time to go home. I was excited to see Amelia even though I was only away from her for 3 hours! She was happy to see me too. :) My friend Amanda is keeping her for me...she is so laid back and loves kids. Amelia hasn't cried once with her. She has been going through an attachment-to-mama thing lately, so I was so relieved! I asked her yesterday if she had fun with Amanda and she said, "NO." I told Amanda not to take it personally because she also said she didn't miss Daddy, she didn't love Jesus, and she didn't want to go to church. Typical PK. ;) Her favorite word right now is NO. I'm working with her on YES!

Alex was able to come home a day early and arrived home last night - just in time to rock Amelia to sleep. He was happy that he made it home in time to see her. I was happy to have him home. We miss him so much when he's away.

And now it's Friday!! I looked at our calendar this morning and the only thing we have this weekend is our niece's birthday party! I'm excited that it will be a restful weekend. Happy Friday!

A restaurant all to ourselves...

I think I'm going to just reserve a room at the after hours clinic. Around 5pm yesterday - we were about to head out to grab a few things at the market and pick up a couple of prescriptions at the pharmacy. I went to change Amelia's shirt and noticed hives on her belly and around her diaper area. Within a few minutes they had spread all over her torso, her neck, her back and she was scratching her entire body. I've actually never seen her scratch before this and it's sad to watch. She would rub her neck and chest and then just shake. I could tell it was itching very badly. I immediately gave her benadryl and then put her in the car to go to the after hours clinic.

We waited for an hour just to be called back. Amelia was STARVING. She accidentally spilled all of her snacks on the floor in the waiting area, so I had nothing to give her. Once we were called into the registration area - they checked her pulsox level and it was 86. I had no clue that was low but the nurse was concerned. She immediately took us back to a room for Amelia to see a doctor. She didn't seem to be struggling with breathing. He listened to her and she sounded fine. Not sure what the low pulsox was all about.

She immediately wanted to be held when the doctor came in. He got out his stethoscope and she placed her hand on it to hold it while he listened. Then he got out the device to look in her ears. I held her head and she sat perfectly still until he was finished. Then he brought out the light and tongue depressor to look in her throat. She took her paci out and immediately opened her mouth for him to look. HAHAHA! He said, "she's smart." I told him that she's been to the doc quite a bit over the last few months and they all do the same thing - she must have committed it to memory!

We were there for over three hours. It was late by the time we finished and Amelia was starving. When I went through the pharmacy drive-thru, she spit out her paci and said "fry-fry." So what does this Mama do at 9:30pm when her baby wants french fries? We went out to eat. We sat in Mimi's Cafe and had the entire restaurant to ourselves. She had some french fries and chicken and I had a cup of corn chowder. I know some people might think I'm insane for not just going through Mc Donald's and taking her home - but it won't hurt a girl to stay up past her bedtime just one night. She had been through so much - she deserved better than Mc D's. I actually enjoyed sitting there in that empty restaurant - just the two of us. They played elevator music the entire time and Amelia was swaying and singing. She had me laughing so hard. Precious memories. :)

By the time we got home - her hives were almost gone. I gave her a bath and she went right to sleep. They think she's either allergic to the antibiotic she's on for strep or allergic to nuts. She had peanut butter around 3pm yesterday and it's only the second time I've ever given it to her. We'll have blood drawn this week to see if she has nut allergies. I'm really hoping that's not it...that it's just the antibiotic.

Never a dull moment with this child.

Being the best ME that I can be...

Amelia and I are on the mend. Did I mention that she shared strep with her Mama too? I kiss her face all day long, so really it's my own fault. I started meds immediately after waking up with a throat that was on fire. I seriously don't know how Amelia went a week without medicine...her throat had to be killing her. Poor baby.

Speaking of my baby. I love her. Oh how I love her. Several times over the weekend, I would just look over at her and my heart felt so incredibly full. I feel incredibly blessed to be her mother. She's at an age where we have to correct her a lot. Lots of "no-no", "please don't touch that", "do you want a spankin'?" I've really felt God tug on my heart while correcting Amelia. He has told me to be patient with her. To speak softly to her. To speak to her as I would want to be spoken to. I think it would have broken my heart if my mother had ever yelled at me. I don't remember even one time when she raised her voice. I loved her, respected her, and even had a healthy fear of her discipline. And now I love her, respect her, and admire her greatly for her patience as a mother to 6 children. I know I will make mistakes as a mother, but I really want to show God's love to Amelia. That's my true heart. I want her to see a difference in her Mama and want what I have. I spend more hours in the day with Amelia than Alex. I mean, if she ends up being screwed up - it's probably going to be my fault.

Kidding.

Sort of.

Alex provides for our family by leaving each morning and working outside of the home. I provide for our family by staying home and taking care of Alex's and Amelia's needs. Alex reminds me often that my job is of equal importance. Sometimes as a SAHM, you can feel like you're not "contributing" as much to the family. I don't bring home a paycheck. Though I'd much rather be paid in kisses than dollars any day.

I've struggled with taking care of myself now that I'm a Mom. I looked in the rear view mirror on the way to church yesterday and the huge dark circles under my eyes about made me cry. I've put off my yearly, my 6-month dentist appointment, my weekly chiropractor appointments, working out, getting my hair cut, getting a pedicure/manicure, getting my eyebrows waxed. I could go on and on. I've put myself as lowest priority on my many lists. Alex and I decided over the weekend that I can't continue this way. We've been living on a budget since the beginning of the year. I love it by the way! I never thought I would say that - but it's true. I love being on a budget and Alex being over the finances. It was an area that I needed to submit to my husband many years ago and finally did it. We've decided that we're adding in a babysitting line to the budget. God provided someone to take care of Amelia almost instantly after we talked about it. Two days a week/for a few hours, I get to run my errands, go to the doctor, grocery shop...all while knowing Amelia is being well taken care of in our home. I'm not big on ME TIME, but I am big on taking care of myself. I want to be the best ME that I can be for my family. I think everyone will benefit from this new-added budget line.

So how about you? Are you taking care of yourself?

"Dear friend, I hope all is well with you and that you are as healthy in body as you are strong in spirit." -3 John 1:2

A painting for Amelia's room...

I decided to take Amelia to her pediatrician's office today. She has been getting worse vs. better since going to the after hours clinic on Saturday. I asked the after hours clinic to run a strep test. I felt like that's what Amelia had because she had it once before and her symptoms were the same. The nurse struggled to get the swab to the back of Amelia's throat but said she got what she needed.

The test came back negative.

They told us she had an upper respiratory infection. My Mom had been here for a few days over Valentine's Day and was sweet enough to babysit Amelia. Amelia started feeling yucky on Valentine's night. Mom started feeling yucky after she got back home and finally went to the doctor yesterday. Guess what?

She has strep.

I knew immediately that Amelia had given it to her. My Mom has never had strep in her life. So I decided to be THAT MOM and take her to the doctor and ask for another strep test.

It came back positive.

My poor baby has been dealing with this sore throat/fever/runny nose/congestion/upset stomach/etc for a week now. I feel so bad for her. She refused all food this morning. I'm sure it just hurt too much to swallow. I'm just wondering where in the world do you catch strep?? Amelia goes to church nursery and no one there had it. She and I go out very little...we're home most of the time. She has been sick so much and I feel like I should be doing something to prevent it. I just don't know what to do. I wash my hands like a crazy person...it's one of my only OCD qualities. Should I be rubbing her down with hand sanitizer on an hourly basis? Kidding. I'm just ready for her to be well for longer than a month. Are your kiddos sick this much during the winter??

On a happy note - LOOK what I received a picture of today. I am so excited to hang this in Amelia's room. I've been following Kim's blog since before we started fertility treatments. I'm adding this picture of me and Kim in Atlanta because I think she's so darn cute. Look at me hunching over, trying to look normal up against her tiny-self.

I've always been a huge fan of her work and knew that when I had a baby - I needed a piece of her artwork. She stopped taking orders quite a while back because she had so many to fill. I've been watching the countdown (like a stalker) to see when she would get to me! When it came time to decide what I wanted - I totally left it up to Kim. Since I've stalked her website for years and haven't seen one thing that I haven't loved - I trusted her completely. She did not let me down! I sent her pictures to give her the feel of Amelia's room and also swatches of the bedding material. I've always wanted Amelia's room to be colorful and fun and this painting will go perfectly over the crib. I still have one wall in Amelia's room that has nothing on it. I know what I'm going to do - I just haven't done it yet. Like every other room in my home - it's a work in progress. Never really complete. So if you want to see a few pictures of what IS finished in Amelia's room and see the AWESOME painting that will go above the crib - go HERE!! And then place your own order with Kim!!

Oh, and nevermind the squished up bedding in Amelia's crib. It used to be all nice and neat and you could actually see the pretty bedskirt and then she grew and started standing on it and sleeping on it like a pillow. I'm hoping no one will even notice the bedding once I get the painting up there!

Mon-Wed...

My parents came in on Sunday evening. I hadn't seen them in over a month, so I was excited they were coming for a few days. On Monday evening, we met up with most of my brothers & sisters to have dinner. We had Mexican food. I haven't had Mexican food in FOREVER. It was good.

I took Amelia to her 15 month well-visit on Tuesday afternoon. She had to get 3 shots. As soon as I put her in the car - she went out. Shots always make her tired. Well...they make her cry and then they make her tired. Poor thing.

Tuesday evening, my Dad had a Conference to attend. My Mom, Joy, and I went to a prayer event for the upcoming Beth Moore Conference in our area. I seriously sat and cried through the promotional video. If you've been to a Beth Moore Conference, you know why I would cry through that video. If you haven't...I urge you to find an event near you and go. I left wishing April 15th were tomorrow. Can you imagine wanting tax day to be here tomorrow!?? It's just always a wonderful conference! Beth always brings it and to worship with thousands of other women is an awesome experience. They gave us goody bags filled with stuff and this was in mine. I've never been through this study, but look forward to it!

My S-I-L, Elaina took care of Amelia for me and I very much appreciated it! Amelia wasn't in the best mood since she had shots and no nap. Poor Aunt E. Amelia cried off and on for the first hour. Yet Aunt E said she would keep her again in a heartbeat. That's true love. :)

Today we've stayed at home in our pjs. My hips are killing me. I'm going to have to start back to the chiropractor next week. I felt like mother of the year, laying on the couch watching Amelia play today. Not cool. It's all I could do though.

Tomorrow we have home group. I'm making one of my favorites - tamale soup. My meal planning/cooking every evening is going really well. I look at the pie chart on the computer and the piece of the pie that was SO VERY LARGE and marked FOOD/EATING OUT has shrunk significantly. YAY!!

Oh, and look at what Amelia started saying this evening! She was named after her Aunt Joy and I have no doubt my sister will LOVE THIS. :) We've been working on it for a while and she started saying it all of the sudden tonight.

Up early on a Saturday...

I have been up since 6am. On a Saturday! Saturday is usually the day that Alex gets up with Amelia and I get to "sleep in." I put that in quotations because the older I get, the harder it has become to sleep late. I'm doing good if I can sleep until 10am anymore. When I was younger, I could sleep until noon - easy! :) It's not as if Amelia doesn't sleep late anyway...she sleeps until 9am every morning. I guess it's just nice having one day that I know I can sleep really late - if my body needs it/allows it.

My wonderful in-laws came over yesterday morning. They watched Amelia so I could go to the doctor. I had a sinus infection and needed some relief. He gave me a steroid shot which always has me feeling better within about 6 hours. That shot could be the reason I'm up this early on a Saturday though. :) When I arrived home yesterday, my M-I-L had made chicken-n-dumplings, mac-n-cheese, and green beans cooked up w/bacon. The house smelled so good. My first thought was "I don't have to cook tonight!!" I have been doing really well with cooking every night. I made a meal plan and went to the store and have made myself stick with it. I've enjoyed it and love the thought that I've saved our family A LOT of money, just from eating at home vs. eating out. And the meals have been yummy!

Anyway, back to my wonderful M-I-L. After they left, I put Amelia down for her nap and went to rest in my bed. I found these chocolates on my pillow from my M-I-L. How sweet is that? They're delicious too.

She and my F-I-L really blessed me yesterday. She actually thanked me for letting them come and help. That touched my heart and God immediately said, "see...it's okay to ask for help, Jill." I don't ask for help often. I feel like I should be able to handle one child. After all, my Mom and M-I-L had 6. All within 2 years apart! Alex reminds me a lot that having a child in your mid-30's vs. 20's makes a huge difference. I wish I had been ready to have kids when I was younger...I did have so much more energy back then! I have always required a lot of sleep, but I could run and do all day long and be just fine. I used to babysit my nephews all of the time and would run errands with them like it was nothing! I want to have that same energy with my own child(ren). By no means do I think 34 (35 is fast approaching) is old, but it's not 24. I'm going to do better about asking for help when I need it. I'm not Wonder Woman and that's okay.

I gave Amelia a special treat yesterday. She hasn't had real juice in a long time. I give her water and that's what she calls juice. I decided to fill her cup with half juice/half water and let me tell ya...the girl carried that cup around until it was GONE! She loved it. I know it's silly, but I love to see her enjoy simple things like that.

Speaking of simple things. Alex went out to the garage last night and made Amelia a "house" to play in. She loved it. I almost bought her a little tent for Christmas, but I had already finished shopping for her so I didn't buy it. She loves hiding and getting under blankets and such. Who knew that a cardboard box could bring such enjoyment?? We ask where her house is and she goes to her cardboard box.

I wanted to post this video of Amelia. We've been working on different family members names. There are times when she will repeat whatever we say - and then times where she just stares at us like, "I don't know what you're talking about." I videoed her saying a few names and wanted to share with the Grandparents & family!

Happy Saturday!!

Snow & Sickness...

I'm fighting a cold. As soon as I think it's gone, it proves me wrong and I start sneezing and having to blow my nose constantly. My S-I-L, Alicia is cringing upon reading that statement about me blowing my nose. She can't stand for people to blow their nose. HAHA! I'm chugging the OJ because I'm one of those people that believes it makes me better.

We took Amelia out in the snow for a couple of minutes to snap a picture. She couldn't play in it since she has been sick. As I look at this picture, I notice that I grabbed a sweater and hat out of her closet to throw on her...this is an outfit of many different STRIPES. (LOL) I still think she looks precious.

Her first snow was last February...she was almost 4 months old in this pic. She has grown so much. I'm hoping the next snow we get, she'll be well and we'll be able to play in it!

I wanted to show you what my S-I-L, Sara gave me for Christmas. She actually made a set of these for all of the girls in our family. 7 sets total! She worked on them for months and we were all so surprised! I love them. She painted a canvas for each month that we can switch out. How cute are these??? When I see stuff like this, it makes me really wish I could paint!

We went to Amelia's ENT appointment today.

She will have tubes put in on January 19th. It took all of 5 minutes for the doctor to look at how many ear infections she has had since her 1st birthday and "tubes" immediately came out of his mouth. I know it's best for her vs. continuing to have ear infections. He said that a lot of times it can be done in as few as 10 minutes. I'm sure those will be the longest 10 minutes of my life. Handing her over to the nurses and not being able to be there while she's having it done will be very hard. So if you think of us on the 19th...say a prayer for my girl. And her Mama. :)

Speaking of prayer. Joanne desperately needs our prayers. She had a stroke at home and her daughter found her. She is fighting for her life and needs God's healing. Her husband has been updating on her blog.

Snow day and the doctor...

Well, we didn't make it through the weekend without going to the after-hours clinic. Amelia woke up at 3am on Saturday morning and I knew she still had an ear infection. My girl is a good sleeper, so that has become a clear indicator of when something is wrong. That and she messed with her ear throughout the entire last round of antibiotics. I was able to get her to sleep with me in the guest bedroom from about 5am-10am on Saturday.

When she woke up she gave me this face. And my heart melted right there.

So we called and made an appointment and headed to ACH.

They are always so sweet with her there and this time was no different. I love the nursing staff there. After talking with the doctor, he recommended three days of rocephin injections to get rid of this ear infection, since she hasn't responded to the oral meds. The medicine wouldn't fit in one injection, so she had to have 2 shots (one in each leg). I'm so glad Alex was with me. He stood over her and held her hands while I stood back and cried. She cried so hard. She was worn out afterwards and quickly fell asleep in the truck.

We headed back for her 2nd round of shots on Sunday afternoon. She looks as though she remembers this place by the look on her face. Thankfully, she didn't cry quite as long and hard the second time around.

We came out of the appointment to snow falling hard! Amelia thought it was funny. We ran to the truck and started home.

It had only been snowing for about 30 minutes, but we saw dozens of wrecks on our way home. Arkansans freak at the mention of snow and lose all ability to drive sensibly. And can I just say, if you have a wreck...don't get out of your car. This is the worst thing you can do. You could be killed. Alex worked with someone that got out of his car to help someone in bad weather and he was struck by another vehicle and killed. So stay in your car, please?

Amelia slept really well last night. She slept until 10am this morning! She had a huge smile on her face when I went in to get her this morning.

We woke up this morning to a beautiful blanket of snow! We have at least 4". To some of you that might not be a lot, but to us that's a blizzard! We usually just get ice!

I opened the back door today to let her check out the snow for a few minutes. She acted as though she was afraid of it. She touched it once, but then wanted nothing to do with it. As soon as I shut the door, she started bawling and trying to open the door again. (LOL)

Amelia just woke up from her nap, so we're going to head back to Children's for her final round of shots. I'm thankful this is the last of them and that we see the ENT on Wednesday. Please pray that they'll know what's going on with our girl and that if she needs tubes, I'll have peace about that.

Oh, and check out this video. We've been saying the word doctor a lot to Amelia lately...she started repeating it over the weekend.

Hope you're enjoying a snow day too!
