I'm halfway there!!

I'm 20 weeks pregnant today! That means we're halfway there!! This pregnancy really is flying by for me. I'm making sure to enjoy every minute of it. :)

Baby girl weighs about 10 1/2 ounces now. She's also around 6 1/2 inches long from head to bottom and about 10 inches from head to heel — the length of a banana. At our last doctor's visit, he told us that she was measuring a little bigger than what the u/s said. I quickly told him that I couldn't have a large baby. He chuckled and said, "you can't?" I explained to him that I was a 9 lb baby and I can't be having a 9 lb baby! I'm praying our baby girl takes after Alex in that department because he was a normal size infant! (LOL) He told me that it would be a good idea for us to take the birthing classes at the hospital. Guess I need to sign us up for that. Those of you who took them...how far along were you when you took the class and were they beneficial?

My blood pressure was up at the appointment. This was a first, so I'm not too worried about it. He said they would keep an eye on it. I think it was because I was so emotional through the entire u/s and then immediately came out and had my bp taken. He told me that I will be taking the glucose test next appointment. Not looking forward to that. Hopefully, it's not as bad as everyone says.

I've already bought several outfits for her for next summer. I'm having so much fun shopping...I'm just giddy in the stores. Alex just laughs at me and shakes his head. :)

My sister was over today. She shared a very sweet conversation with me. She was having her quiet time and just praising & thanking God for giving me this baby. As she was talking to Him, she felt Him tell her that He didn't just give me my desire for a baby - He gave me MY TRUE HEART'S DESIRE. I just started crying as she shared this with me, because I have thanked Him over and over for JUST THAT. I would have been so happy with a little boy, but God (and anyone who really knows me) knew how badly I've wanted a baby girl. Everything that I've bought over the years and placed in that closet has been for a little girl. That's why I was so emotional during the u/s...my heart felt SO FULL at that moment. He cares not just about the fact that I've wanted to be a mother for so long. He knew my heart and knew that giving me a baby girl would be that cherry on top of my already wonderful sundae! How awesome is that!??

Today, we have plans to celebrate my nephew, Pryce's birthday. On the menu: ribs, corn on the cob, potato salad, baked beans, birthday cake and ice cream. Seriously, it doesn't get any better than that! We'll go to a movie in the afternoon and then catch some fireworks somewhere this evening. Should be a fun day!!

I hope you have a fun, safe & Happy 4th of July!!

Love you guys,

The glucose test isn't too bad...just make sure to put it in the fridge so it is cold and drink it through a straw.
We took birthing classes. One class about infant care (we took it for the infant CPR...the other information was dumb), one about breastfeeding and one about actual labor and delivery. All between 28-34 weeks (I think).
I think the labor and delivery class was most helpful for Josh so he'd know what to expect! :)

We took the birthing classes and LOVED them. We were a few weeks away from delivery when we finished the classes (I think 6 weeks one day a week). It was great for me but I think Brian learned the most from them. Things that I already knew from talking to friends or my sister were things he was not aware of so it was nice for him to get more knowledge. I learned many things that I didn't know as well (or things that people just don't talk about in a normal conversation). It was very helpful for us. We bonded during the classes as well.

I felt so prepared when the time came because of check lists and things that that class prepared me for. Brian and I also read alot of books on natural childbirth. It is just an amazing experience.

You look FANTASTIC and HAPPY!!!

We took the childbirth classes offered through our doctor's office and then did the tour of the hospital's maternity ward. We were told to do these 2-3 months before my due date, so we just did them in June when I was about 28-30 weeks along. I liked the childbirth classes. They were just overviews on the stages of labor, the coping mechanisms of contractions, interventions that the doctors may do during labor and birth, and what to expect physically after you give birth and what they'll do to your baby after birth. Very informative, i felt like. And while I have tried to stay pretty informed, it helped my husband to understand things even better.

As for the glucose challenge, keeping it refrigerated does help. I did the orange flavored one and it tasted kinda like orange soda. I've heard the lemon-lime one tastes like flat Sprite. It's not so bad.

Ok... You know me... tears are flowing. I am just now getting caught up on blog scoop, and just found out that you are having a girl. I am so excited!!! I knew it!!! I always thought girl for some reason. You look absolutely precious in this pic. I am over the moon for you and your hubby. I passed the glucose test with Ben...no problem. I did not with Max the first time, so I had to do the three hours test thing...not fun. I passed the second time. I think you have nothing to worry about at all. I have to email you and get the name. I just have to know. Leslie

so sweet everything you are going trhough.... very exciting times, as you share your experiences it all brings back memories of when i was pregnant with Sara and how i treasure every moment of that, even the sickness!!! it's all new and you dream every minute of that day you will hold her for the first time:)

We only took the childbirth class, very helpful mostly for the husbands and they gave us a book that explains everything before and after.... i recommend that you take also the breastfeeding class( only if you plan to do this)i heard my friends said it was helpful but i will very glad to help you out on that one and give you some tips if you need me to!!!
I think we took those classes around 30 weeks or so, is better if you wait until your last trimester so you don't forget anything. So much fun:) Enjoy!

oh, i forgot to say about the glucose test... make sure your appt is early in the morning because you can't eat before the test and if you wait later on the day to have it done you will be starving and is not fun! it doesn't taste bad at all... i drank it with a straw and that made it easier to pass without tasting it so much. you will be fine, piece of cake:)

We did the birthing class when pregnant with Abigail. It was fun getting together with all those other couples who were at about the same stage we were. I read every book so didn't learn anything, but I could but couldn't get David to read a single one... so they were mostly beneficial for him.
They were beneficial for me b/c they told us to practice breathing every night, which included a backrub from David while I breathed.

We took the birthing class and then I took the breastfeeding one. They were great...I think we took them about two months before our due date.
You have lots of family and friends to ask....but remember, I am here if you have questions or need anything!

Glucose drink is better ICE COLD!

I didn't take a single birthing class. But I did take breastfeeding and childcare basics class.

This is our third baby and I signed up for a birthing class just to see what it's like. I'm going about a month before we're due. We're doing the speedy class that's all on one day instead of going a few nights a week.

what an awesome God we have! i am smiling reading his exact plans to give you the desires of your heart.

we took birthing classes around week 34 and it was helpful. there was some stuff that we used and some that we didn't, but if nothing else it made me feel more prepared!

I LOVE the pigtails. Love them. So adorable.
The GTT is not bad at all, at least it wasn't for me! The drink just tasted like flat soda and the blood draw... well... been there, done that 8 million times, right? ;-) You'll be fine, I promise.
*hugs*
